Hello. We’re Pete and Rich, the creators of Window Seater.
We believe there are amazing stories everywhere, even along the routes undertaken in the most common of journeys, and they’re going unnoticed or forgotten.
We believe that, as travellers, we should travel mindfully and build better awareness of – and connections to – the people, history and cultures through which we pass.
And we believe in a new approach to storytelling: handmade, high quality, researched and reliable audio stories that better connect us to the world and its people.
We’re travellers who met in Myanmar in 2016. Back then Pete was working on an early version of Window Seater, an ethos and an idea for an app that he had first dreamed up travelling by train in France, desperate to know about the landscape flashing by. Meanwhile Rich was learning Burmese and telling digital stories in Yangon.
When we met, we talked stories, and got giddy over the potential of audio for travel storytelling, and of podcasting for understanding world culture. Together we pooled our excitement and experiences and to launch Windowseater.com, a home for mindful travel and compelling, high quality audio storytelling.
Our supporting apps for iPhone and Android have just launched for South-East Asia (a part of the world we love). We’ve logged over 7,000km in Thailand by rail, poured over maps, spoken to locals and narrated more than 200 pieces of content.
It’s a bit of a wild ride – we’ve got plans to grow a network of stories and storytellers across the world, to launch a podcast and do all kind of other crazy things that lead to more mindful and authentic travel.
This website and the Window Seater beta app is just the start. We hope that you will join us!
